What did God intend the church to be like?
Jesus returned the focus of the church to the people, the community, rather than the institution.
- John 13:34-35 – a new command, just as I loved you, you should love each other.
- Acts 2 –
- All the believers devoted themselves to the Apostales
- And their teaching,
- And to one another. Sharing in meals, worship and life. Koinonia.
- And to pray, together.
-
Martin Luther: “To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing.”
-
What were the results of this type of community (Acts)
- Miraculous signs and wonders (vs. 43)
- They took care of each others needs, because they knew the needs
- They worshiped together and met in homes
- Everyday the Lord added to their fellowship those that were being saved
1 Timothy 2. Paul encourages Timothy to not get to bogged down in details, remember the big picture. Pray for all, serve all, bring the Word to all.
Two questions, Who is the church for? How do I live out my faith?
